Lisa Shan ’28, from Beijing, China, chose Skidmore for the freedom to explore interests from the arts to the sciences. The studio arts major is now using wearable art to explore themes of home, distance, and connection.

‌Men’s basketball Head Coach Joe Burke became the program’s all-time wins leader with his 215th career victory and owns a .551 career winning percentage, the highest since Skidmore began varsity competition in 1982.

‌Summer student employment ‌ 

‌The process for submitting requisitions for summer employment is now open. All summer hire requests are subject to approval by each division’s vice president. Requests for summer workers must be approved before any work begins. Positions will be posted on March 2. All positions that need to be posted/advertised should be submitted by that date. Black Men Speaking: A Conversation with Eight African American Writers 

‌All are invited to join distinguished African American writers Ethelbert Miller, Clifford Thompson, Jerald Walker, Mark Sanders, Gerald Early, David Nicholson, John McCluskey Jr., and Charles Johnson on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 4–5 p.m. via Zoom for a conversation about American history, literature, politics, and culture. ‌‌Modernity and Jewish Life at the End of the Ottoman Empire: A Conversation 

‌At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Wyckoff Center, Murat Yildiz, associate professor of history, will join guest scholar Dina Danon, associate professor of Judaic studies and history at Binghamton University, for a conversation on modernity, class, and Jewish life in urban centers of the late Ottoman Empire. This event is presented by the Jacob Perlow Series and Office of Special Programs.

‌‌Valentine's Day chocolate-covered strawberry sale 

‌Chocolate-covered strawberries will be available through a pre-order sale, with orders due by Friday, Feb. 6. Half-dozen boxes cost $10. Orders may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Spa. A limited number of boxes will also be available for purchase the day of.

‌‌2026 Juried Student Exhibition 

‌The 2026 opens Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Schick Gallery, with a reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The exhibition features more than 200 entries across all media, including painting, drawing, animation, fibers, ceramics, jewelry, and metals. The 2026 juror is artist and writer Mary Simpson. The exhibition is on view through March 3.

‌‌Geothermal awareness survey 

‌Please take one to two minutes to complete this , which aims to better understand the Skidmore community’s awareness of geothermal systems on campus. Responses will be used to inform sustainability projects and communications. Participants may enter a raffle for one of several $15 Uncommon Grounds gift cards.

‌The 2026 Humanistic Inquiry Symposium will take place March 20-21 at the Tang and is open to all. This year’s theme, “Space/Place,” invites us to consider how environments shape stories, identities, and experiences, and continues exploration of the spacetime continuum began with last year’s focus on time.

‌Women’s lacrosse will host a February break kids camp Feb. 16–20 for children in grades K–5.
